HUNTSVILLE HOUSING AUTHORITY INTRODUCES THE YOUTH ADVISORY COUNCIL
HUNTSVILLE – The Huntsville Housing Authority (HHA) today introduces an organization designed to give young people of public housing communities an opportunity to voice their concerns in order to promote a safer and healthier community. The Youth Advisory Council (YAC) consists of youth residing in the inner city who want to positively transform their neighborhoods and who are willing to be “change agents” in order to bring about that transformation. The goal is to eliminate the negative influence of poverty in public housing and create new mindsets for youth residing in these communities.
“Our young public housing residents have a great opportunity to serve as a positive influence to their peers and help make their communities a better place to live. In fact, a great role model for these kids is the Youth Advisory Council President, Tory Green. This Eagle Scout recently made headlines with Mayor Tommy Battle designating
Monday, February 23, as Tory Green Day. And this inspiring young man also had the opportunity of a lifetime to meet President Barack Obama, hug the First Lady, and address Congress. Tory serves as a public housing success story, and demonstrates how our youth can truly make a difference in their community,” said Michael O. Lundy, Executive Director/CEO, Huntsville Housing Authority.
