STONE MANOR RESIDENTS SPEAK OUT
HUNTSVILLE, AL - The Huntsville Housing Authority (HHA) today issued the following public comments made at its October 19th board meeting at the Oscar Mason Center from residents of Stone Manor Apartments:
“I am here on behalf of the Southeast Huntsville clergy association, of which I am a member. We have a joy we want to share with all of you. The Southeast Huntsville clergy has a tradition of celebrating several worship services together throughout the year, one of which is at Thanksgiving. This year, the Greater Huntsville Ministerial Interdenominational Fellowship (GHMIF) has issued us an invitation to have one service together. We are having a city-wide Thanksgiving service the Sunday before Thanksgiving at 5:30 p.m. I am here to invite everyone to attend. I have written invitations with all the information on them.”
Rev. Traci Loveman, Associate Pastor, Latham United Methodist Church Southeast Huntsville.
“I live in Stone Manor. I have to apologize to you for my big mouth at some of these meetings that we have had on this issue. Stone Manor is the cleanest I’ve ever seen it, not a whisper, nobody’s bothering anybody, and it’s just great. When it started I figured it’s not going to work, but it has. So, if you will, please accept my apology for my mouth.”
George M. Gardner, Previous Stone Manor Resident
“My family and I live in Stone Manor. We have not been there long, but the change in the area is from night to day. I believe that the property manager, Ms. Vanessa doesn’t give a hand-out she gives a hand-up, and anything that needs to be done is done quick and efficiently and she talks to you as a friend instead of as a manager. I believe she is a gift from God because the way she treats people with respect and she receives respect from the residents because of that. The area is so beautiful and well kept. It’s been a long time since it has been seen that way. We have a 10 year old daughter and we don’t have to worry about her playing in the area now.”
Suzanne Needle, New Stone Manor Resident
“I’m Rev. Kerry Holder Joffrion. I work for the Interfaith Mission Service (IMS), and I just have one minute’s worth of thanks. I want to give thanks for IMS for the bridges that are continuing to be built between the North and South Huntsville community. I want to publicly pledge our personal assistance in welcoming our new neighbors to Southeast Huntsville. I’m a Southeast Huntsville resident, and we are very proud that our soup is getting richer and richer and want to thank the Housing Authority and also thank the Southeast residents and our new neighbors at Stone and Mahogany for helping us to be a true human family. Thank you.”
Rev. Kerry Holder Joffrion, Interfaith Mission Service
“I’m a current resident at Stone Manor apartments where Ms. Vanessa is the manager there. It’s been a fantastic and wonderful experience for my daughter and me. She’s four years old and she understands the difference between being in an area where it’s not as comfortable being a four year old. She loves it at Stone Manor. With that being said, we are happy to actually have someone who can have belief in us as well as us having belief in ourselves to actually live in an area where we can appreciate good things and not just take it for granted. The residents there are participants. They really help keep the area nice and clean and help each other out. Everyone works together as a team, building a foundation for people in our situation. We are happy to have Vanessa here to represent us and let us know we can really make it, not just through the system, but for ourselves and our little ones.”
Quanetrea Nance, New Stone Manor Resident
“I just want to thank Huntsville Housing Authority for all that it’s done for my kids and me. We were over at what I called “Beverly Hills” at Butler Terrace and then we got transferred down to Stone Manor and the kids are calling it “Hollywood”. Ms. Vanessa and Ms. Tina do a tremendous job down there. I’m not originally from Alabama. I come from South Dakota. I’m down here raising my kids, going to school for a teaching degree with a minor in sociology and I just want to say thank you! Stone Manor is so positive. It’s so clean. Everyone at Stone Manor leans on each other. It’s wonderful and I want to thank you for everything you do for us. We look forward to our next life adventure.”
Lisa Martchinske, New Stone Manor Resident
